As a physician who is providing (or has provided) services in California, we want to make you aware of a legal requirement for physicians to post and provide patients with a specific notice related to the Open Payments database. The Open payments database is a national transparency program that collects and publishes information about financial relationships between drug and medical device companies and certain healthcare providers. California requires physicians to comply with the following requirements:
1. Provide patients at their initial visit with written or electronic notice of their ability to access the Open Payments database;
2. Post a visible notice regarding the Open Payments database at every practice location; and
3. Post a notice regarding the Open Payments database on the practice website.
